Breakout 1 – Standard Breakout

Breakout #1 – Standard Breakout

Key rule: If a board-side winger can’t make a play, freeze the puck and wait for help from the center. Do not force it up the boards toward their defence — that turnover is worse than holding it.

This is how everyone moves in a standard breakout.

  • Wingers stay as high as they can to push defence back
  • Strong side D (LD here) follows winger in case of a bump back
  • Weak Side Winger Streaks for the puck
  • Center skates low and slow, mirroring the puck moving (ie mirroring the pass from D to D usually)
    • Center provides support for the strong side winger
  • Netfront Defence follows the play up ice
