Breakout #2 – Push the Pace Breakout
Key rule: If a board-side winger can’t make a play, freeze the puck and wait for help from the center. Do not force it up the boards toward their defence — that turnover is worse than holding it.
Option 1 – Wing chips off the glass

- D Makes pass to posted up winger
- Winger protects the puck and puts it off the glass (either forehand )
- Weak Side Winger Streaks for the puck
- Center fills the wing’s lane
- After chipping the strong side winger supports through the middle
Option 2 – Wing bumps back to D, D chips off the glass

- If the winger is under too much pressure, they can bump back to the D
- The D takes a stride to get a good angle and chips it off the glass
- All other players run the same route.
